Our on-road diesel services cater to a wide range of industries, including waste haulers, oil fields, courier and delivery service companies, municipalities, school districts, farms, moving companies, construction companies, paving businesses and more. We offer reliable and efficient solutions to meet the diverse needs of our clients.
Diesel is not limited to commercial vehicles and trucks seen on the road. Many customers of Cortez Gas who use commercial diesel also utilize diesel fuels for off-road purposes. This off-road diesel, similar in chemical composition to on-road diesel, is exempted from excise tax as it is not used for transportation. To differentiate it from taxed on-road diesel, off-road diesel is dyed red, akin to heating oil. It powers a wide range of equipment such as oil rigs, backhoes, bulldozers, generators and tractors.
While New Mexico may be seen by outsiders as entirely a hot desert, locals know that it can get very cold in parts of the state. Higher elevations, especially in northern New Mexico, can have daytime highs only in the 30s during winter, and low temperatures are generally well below freezing.
That can pose a challenge for vehicles and equipment that run on diesel fuels because diesel can begin to gel as the temperature gets further below freezing. When diesel fuel begins to thicken and gel, it can clog fuel lines and filters, rendering the engine inoperable.
That’s where winterized diesel fuel comes in. Winterized diesel fuel is a blend of traditional No. 2 diesel fuel and No. 1 fuel, of which kerosene is the main component. This blend resists gelling even in temperatures below 0° Fahrenheit.
